The Mook: Logan Paul
The Mook: A loud and annoying character that is stuck in adolescence and made to mimic teens boys.
As I first learned about the different characters in the media that are generated for profit, this archetype stuck out as a character that is still present in our media today. The Mook itself is a character that generates plenty of eye-rolls and generally negative feedback, but somehow it still manages to connect to a younger audience on an unbelievable level. The Mook is a money maker for companies, and has been for a while now. The Mook's character is based on hooking its audience on shock factor and questionable actions, but when do these actions go too far? When is a red line crossed?
The average Joe would say it's usually somewhere around, ya know, showing a dead body on camera and uploading it for millions of people - mainly children - to see.
The Mook is designed to be a jaw dropper, to not have any boundaries. Logan Paul is the modern definition of this archetype, and it leaves me wondering whether or not Logan would have recognized his wrongdoing if he wasn't called out and condemned publicly by many, many people including social media influencers. I also wonder if YouTube would've taken action against Paul if there was less backlash.
Nevertheless, this whole situation only proves that we as consumers have the power to demand change as we see necessary. Maybe we can use this power to change more in our media.
